Accessibility statement
Last updated: September 14, 2026
Department of Ducks wants this website, departmentofducks.com, to work for everyone who visits it, whatever device, browser, assistive technology or settings they use. This statement says how far it gets, and where it does not yet.
The standard we build to
The target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, the level the European standard EN 301 549 asks for under the European Accessibility Act.
Conformance status
Partially conformant. Most of the site meets WCAG 2.2 AA. The known exceptions are listed below.
What we have done
- Every page works with a keyboard alone, starts with a skip link, and shows where keyboard focus is.
- Pages use headings, landmarks and labelled controls, so a screen reader can move through them in a sensible order.
- Text meets the AA contrast ratios, and the pages keep working at 320px wide, at 200% zoom and with Windows high contrast colours.
- Both videos have captions and a written description of everything they show, and neither plays on its own.
- The walking duck on the home page can be stopped with the "Stop the duck" button, stays still once stopped, and does not appear at all if your device asks for reduced motion.
- Every change is checked automatically in Chromium, Firefox and WebKit, including an axe accessibility scan of every page.
Known limitations
- No audio-described versions of the videos (WCAG 1.2.5). The studio teaser and the MaMills trailer have no speech, and there is no version with a spoken description. Each has a full written description instead: "Describe this teaser" on the home page and "Describe this trailer" in the trailer window.
- Manual screen reader testing is not complete. The checks above are automated. A full pass with VoiceOver, NVDA and TalkBack has not been done yet.
- Pages we do not run. The Steam store page, where the Wishlist buttons lead, belongs to Valve and is not covered by this statement.
The game
This statement covers the website. MaMills itself has its own accessibility settings, among them colour-blind safe and patterned palettes, larger text and reduced motion; the MaMills page lists them.
